Dr. Laura Catena is a 4th generation winemaker who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and has a Medical Doctor degree from Stanford University. In 1995, Laura returned to Argentina to join her father Nicolás Catena Zapata at their family winery.
The vineyard is named after Laura's daughter, Nicola, whose name pays homage to Nicola Catena, Laura's great-grandfather and founder of the Catena winery in 1902. Laura named the wine from this vineyard after her grandmother -- another homage to the generations that build and inspire new flavors.
Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley. The vineyard is old and was planted with Dijon clones in 1993. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines, and yields are extremely low. Domaine Nico is the world's first extreme high-altitude vineyard for Pinot Noir.
A dead-ringer (and maybe even more interesting than) the best Burgundy, with forest berries, orange zest, mushrooms, and moss. Textured and medium-bodied on the palate with a very long, layered finish.
