Giovan Battista Burlotto is the legendary winemaker who produced 78 consecutive Barolo vintages and earned turn-of-the-century stardom in a wine world dominated by the French. He's known now simply as "Il Commendatore," after the national Italian government gave him this honorary title for his immense contributions to the Italian wine industry. When he passed away in 1927, his family divided his estate into three parts, one of which is Cantina Massara where "Il Commendatore's" last namesake is still the winemaker.
This 2019 vintage -- considered a truly classic representation of Barolo -- comes excusive from Cascina Massara's single Massara cru.
"Incredible depth, structure, and length with plush red fruits tinged by a crisp, peppery note. High-toned wild rose aromatics linger on the finish, perfectly balancing delicacy and power." ~ 93 points
